“A Love Letter to Efya”.- Tilly Akua Nipaa

I tried putting together words to express how I felt sometime back about a guy I couldn’t get out of my mind. After putting all the words together I noticed it didn’t make sense not convey the feeling I felt within.

Then suddenly like a fairy godmother attending to the needs of her goddaughter with alacrity I heard the words

“Come closer let me feel your vibe

I know you wanna put it down on me

Boy hurry we don’t have much time

And let’s not waste it, oh yeah (me know that)”

Stunned by the voice delivering the exact words and message I’ve been trying to put together for hours, I noticed after

“I can see what you’ve been thinkin’ through your eyes

Feelin’ like you won a lottery tonight

Papi you gon’ have to run away your side

You’re the only one on my mind tho…”

that such mellifluous voice could only belong to the songstress Efya. Lyrically the lady is dynamite. Composition of songs like Whoman Woman….. Only explains why she has remained in the music game and started relevant for over a decade.

Her vocal ability that allows her to play in ranges most musicians won’t dare to try is what makes artists like Sarkodie and Edem rush to her for songs like Saara, Favor, I’m in love with you, where did I go wrong to mention a few.

I remember an interview I had with DJ Cuppy where she expressed that Efya has one of her favorite voices in Africa. There was no lie detected there. Jane Awindor has always been the Queen of Vocals.

Also, It seems her performance on stage even gets better with age. At her recent performance Somewhere in Ghana with Omahlay and Sarkodie’s Blacklove concert not forgetting her live band performance at UTV, she reminded uthe world why she is Queen. To me, when we speak of national assets in Ghana’s music industry, Efya can not be left out!

Today I celebrate Efya for perfectly encapsulating how I feel with her good music The One.

Kidi Speaks About Kuami Eugene’s Questionable Fashion

Aside from the similarities in the genre of music they do, it seems the two signees of Lynx entertainment, Kidi and Kuami Eugene, have nothing in common.

While Kidi is seen as the fashion and styling connoisseur, Kuami Eugene on the other hand has been constantly criticized about his fashion sense.

Speaking about his sense of fashion with Tilly Akua Nipaa on Oneplay Africa, Kidi said it was something he picked up subconsciously growing up in a highly fashionable family. Looking good is a must for him.

Touching on Kuami Eugene’s fashion, Kidi stated that as long as his brother is Coll and comfortable with what he wears no one has the audacity to question him although he agrees that some of his outfits have been questionable.

Emphasized that “ I believe that ones someone is wearing something they are comfortable in and are happy about it, that’s all that matters…”

However, he added that “So far as he feels good in it, forget everybody else, but he has also wore things that are a bit questionable…”

Kidi Sends a Message To People Insulting Artists over Grammys

Lynx Entertainment signee, Kidi, has sent advice to Ghanaians insulting artists about the Grammy. To him, although he does not fault them much, Grammy is not the bane of a musician’s existence.

Kidi, like other Ghanaian artists, has been backlashed by Ghanaians for not bringing a Grammy home after the just ended awards. While winning a Grammy will not be a bad idea at all, Kidi states clearly that, the focus should not be solely on the grammy as the reason for doing music or being a recognized and celebrated musician.

In the with Tilly Akua Nipaa on Oneplay Africa, Kidi cited a brilliant example with Nicki Minaj and Lil NasX Kidi pointed out that the fact that they didn’t have a Grammy doesn’t make them less of the artist they are.

Stressing “ A lot of us shouldn’t center our lives around Grammy because Grammy is not the bane of our existence. If I get it I will be super excited, but if it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t take anything away from my career.”

Hopefully, with the kind of international support Kidi has, he brings one home to Ghanaians.

Only God can stop me and my team from attaining greatness; CEO of 3Music Awards, Sadiq Abdulai spills

After a superb display of what could be the new standard and normal in the Ghanaian virtual award shows, the head and founder of the 3Music team, Sadiq Abdullah lays all his cards on the table in a deep dive conversation with budding presenter, Tilly Akua Nipaa of Oneplay Africa.

The 40 minutes interview was one that seems to encapsulate the fears, desires, pain, joy and the whole story behind the success of the 3Music award scheme. While the team wanted to give artists and Ghanaians the best of shows, it seems some artists, industry persons and the media were not ready to corporate or be in full support of this idea.

Although Sadiq sees the positives and negative experiences as a learning point, he stated unequivocally that “One of the things that defines me and my team and I’ve always said it that, we will never be held to ransom by anybody, apart from God and ourselves, we can never be stopped from being great or from achieving greatness.”

He stressed that “the psyche is that whether you support this, you don’t support us that which we’ve set our eyes on to achieve, we would achieve it in the same ways we intended it. It’s up to you to see the value and quickly tap into it.

However, he believes it’s also up to them to project the value to the world since it’s not everyone that is blessed with the knowledge and insight to see things in the way they see it.

“We will be excited to see Sarkodie Win a Grammy, I side with Sherifa Gunu”.- Akiyana

Sherifa Gunu on United Showbiz tipped Sarkodie for the Grammy, according to her, if Sarkodie can inculcate some tradition indigenous instruments into his songs, he could be Ghana’s best bet for the Grammy.

Akiyana in an interview on the female Show with Tilly Akua Nipaa added that she agrees with Sherifa Gunu that “Sarkodie is one of the biggest we have in Ghana and we will be very excited if he wins the Grammy”.

Touching on the instrumentatio, she seconded Sherifa Gunu once again stressing that

‘ I think its very true too because, you see the sound engineers, right now, there is a lot of technological stuff you can implement and put in a song, you don’t even need the piano or the guitar…Forgeting that, if you record, lets say you have a guitar and then you play into the song, it gives it a unique feel, it picks you right on the spot”.

Adding that the engineers don’t do that anymore and complain about time when the artist request for such additions. Hopefully, they are able to add the instruments for the Ghanaian music to reach the Grammy requirement standard.

And imagine during Christmas, people troop in to come visit the land they go to places, they go to bar and less Ghanaian music is being played and more foreign music is played what do you think they are going to take back into their countries? So how are we going to be even nominated for the Grammys?
