How do we talk about culture, new music and talents without throwing some light on the people that document the culture.
In Ghana, a platform for new artistes in the country is very rare to find these days especially when the popular bless the mic event is no more up and running.
New talents always struggle to get their voice and music heard because they operate as an indie artist with no financial help so they could have good music but no one will want to help since they have no budget.
We got the chance to follow one broadcaster who has taken upon himself to break, support and unearth new talents in Ghana.
This Broadcaster is constantly creating platforms for new talents to showcase their strengths as musicians.
Samuel Atuobi Baah as he is known in real life is popularly called Sammy flex in Ghana. The broadcaster on Zylofon 102.1fm uses the radio platform and his youtube channel Sammy Flex TV to unearth talents every day.
In his country, Ghana, Sammy Flex is called the father of under ground artists. The former newspaper publisher has over five hundred new artists under his belt.
Sammy Flex as he is popularly called by his peers a d industry started hosting under ground artists in Ghana on his former radio station Pluzz fm on a show called AM Pluzz.
He then created a rap show on his youtube channel just to unearth talents with the desire to rap in Ghana. He did that project with a Ghanaian hit maker and producer FimFim. The producer behind the popular Fxck boys hit song by Tulenkey.
As if that is not enough, the broadcaster during the Covid 19 era created a challenge called ‘the Covid song challenge’. The challenge was for new artistes that have created songs around Covid -19 to be heard. These talents were hosted on his popular Facebook live TV show, Sammy Flex TV.
Through the COVID song challenge a lot of young talents were discovered and heard. Sammy Baah also has another platform for his new found lovers, new talents and grants them special interviews, plays their music on both Zylofon and Sammy flex TV.
Indeed, the Ghanaian broadcaster has so much passion for new artistes because with all these platforms created, Sammy Baah has developed a talent showcase platform called Happy Hour inside Sowutum a Suburb in Accra, Ghana.
Happy hour happens on Fridays on his Sammy Flex TV show on facebook, where young talents once again come and performance to a live crowd.
Through the Happy hour stage, We have discovered talents such as Apantan, Dondo, TeeRhyme, Queen Haizel, just to list a few.
The Happy hour platform goes live on facebook every Friday at 8pm and hosts more than five to ten new artists a night.
For a culture to grow, people like Sammy Baah needs to be encouraged and urged to continue.
